About me

About Me

Hi! I’m Lark. I’m a (mostly) family and portrait photographer located in Burnaby BC. I’m an easy-going mother of two amazing young children, a wife to wonderful husband and the owner of a cute little senior doggie. I’m a creative person through and through. From the time I was little until now, I’ve doodled, sculpted, crafted and created.  As an adult my creative endeavors have taken me on a meandering path that started with fine arts school, which transitioned into graphic design school, which lead into a 15 year career as a graphic designer. For as long as I can remember I have loved photography, but it wasn’t until the birth of my first child that I really got passionate about it. Motivated by my own personal desire to capture better photos of my family, I started taking night courses in photography, which has lead me to where I am today.

As a photographer, I‘m a chaser of the perfect light and a bit obsessive in my search for the ideal shoot location. I have a harsh eye for detail, and I’m a perfectionist when it comes to quality. As a person I’m super casual, fun and aim to make you feel comfortable in front of my camera.

My Style? More and more I want to embrace the less than perfect moments, to capture what’s real and genuine.  I know that everyone loves to have that ‘picture-perfect’ photo. Trust me, as a mother, I understand the feelings of triumph and relief when I capture an image with everyone looking and smiling at the camera. But when I look back on my own photos those aren’t the photos that I cherish with a full heart. It’s the pure unsolicited moments in life that fill our buckets with love and joy. There is something so special and magical about capturing the authenticity of a candid moment. A genuine laugh.  A loving look.  A silly face. These are the real moments in life that we want to hold on to and remember forever.  It’s a special gift to be able to preserve the smiles, the laughter, the love and the true beauty of life. As a photographer I not only strive to capture that one (or more!) ‘perfect’ photo for my clients, but also to capture images that reflect their authenticity. There is true beauty in life’s little moments and we need to cherish every one of them. To find out more about my journey into photography you can read my first blog post here.
